Growing Tips for Plot Holders

This page is intended for plot holders who are considering growing a new crop and are interested in suggestions as to the variety that they should plant. Over time it is hoped that the experienced growers in our Assocition will contribute with their favourite crop varieties and the time of year that they plant them.

Each schedule will use the following notations:

  • CRR - Club Root Resistent ( some of our plots are susceptible to Club Root)

  • BR - Blight Resistant ( especially tomatoes)

  • INDOORS - Start off seeds indoors where temperature does not fall below 18 degrees

  • Greenhouse - Start off seeds in a greenhouse for later planting out

  • *Frost Protect* - protect against frost with fleece

  • ** FROST AVOID** - do not plant out in May until there are no more frosts

Our Community Plot

We have designated Puch's old plot as our Community Plot. The plot shed will form a good base for small meetings/ gatherings and the plot itself will be used to grow flowers for charitable purposes. A small working party commenced preparing the plot on Saturday 13th April 2024 and are pictured relaxing after a hard afternoon's work:
